I work with adults from their 30s to their 80s and every decade in between (I’ve even worked with people between 10 and 29 years old!). Working with people in all stages of life has helped me take on a holistic perspective and see how needs and interests change from one decade to the next.
My focus is with people who tend to be neglected by mainstream fitness: beginners, seniors, people with limited mobility, folks with health conditions, and people who just want a more tender, caring approach to health and fitness. I’ve been working one-on-one with people for almost a decade, and now I’m ready to share everything I’ve learned along the way with the masses through online, at-home programs that you can do in your own space on your own time. Most of my clients started off as sedentary and now lead active lives that fulfill them. It’s my intention to help you do the same!
My training and teaching style is full of love, compassion, encouragement, and education. You are a wonderful human being and you deserve to have the highest quality support possible, something I strive to give each and every person I am fortunate enough to work with.
I started school to become a Yoga Therapist in July 2022, and I expect to be finished and certified by July 2024. The goal of yoga therapy is to educate and empower people to be part of their own healing process for their mind-body-soul. Essentially, you are the expert of yourself, the captain of your ship. My goal as a yoga therapist in training is to help you explore the seas and navigate everything that comes up to help you have the most fulfilling journey possible. Part of my requirements for school are to work pro bono with clients for my practicum. I am focusing on complicated populations for this part of my schooling – people who have multiple health conditions and challenges going on. I believe this will equip me with the knowledge and resources to help virtually anyone achieve the health, life, and happiness that we all seek and deserve.
So how did I get to where I am today? Read on!
I fondly remember my interest in exercise growing out of my mom’s and sisters’ VHS exercise collection (Denise Austin, Kathy Smith, Cindy Crawford just to name a few). I was very shy as a child and I had a lot of social anxiety around team sports, but I enjoyed physical activity. Lifting weights and moving my body made me feel confident and euphoric. When my brother passed away unexpectedly, I found exercise and yoga to be particularly therapeutic and healing. At the age of 18, I knew I wanted to help other people experience all the benefits of exercise, and I worked on my first personal training certification.
I began my personal training career at the University of Maryland as a student where I worked throughout all four years of my undergraduate schooling. I worked with adults ages 18 through 75, both students and faculty/staff. I absolutely loved this job, but I wanted to explore other career avenues as well.
After college, I found myself trying out other jobs to find my path in life. I did some marketing and sales jobs before signing up for an alternative teaching certification. I taught third grade for three years which was one of the best (and hardest) experiences of my life. However, I knew being in a classroom was not my real passion, so I turned to a career coach. He quickly helped me realize that I wanted to return to my first love: health and fitness.
So that’s how Mary Arciero Fitness LLC was born! Since then, I’ve been working with adults of all ages and health conditions in the comfort of their own homes, with whatever equipment they have. Learning and helping people are my passions, so I’ve taken advantage of every learning opportunity to expand my knowledge and add to my toolkit, and I am thrilled to share this knowledge and passion with you.
Personally, I am the youngest of five children and I might be biased, but my family is pretty awesome! I am now married and hoping to start a family of my own soon-ish. I am a dog mama and I absolutely LOVE animals (and plants). I really have fun doing almost anything, and I have a lot of interests and hobbies: being in the water, games of all kinds, making music, dancing, being in nature, helping people, watching great TV shows and movies, hiking, and making memories with my friends and family.
